MDMA-Assisted Psychotherapy for PTSD: Results from the Swiss Pilot Study

Peter Oehen, MD

Abstract: After more than 20 years of research into the neurophysiology and toxicology of MDMA, this substance is now becoming subject of serious, well-controlled studies in a clinical population of subjects suffering from treatment-resistant PTSD. A description of the now-completed MAPS-sponsored Swiss study of MDMA-assisted psychotherapy for PTSD will be presented followed by a summary of the results of formal outcome measures, as well as descriptions of participant's subjective experiences and the investigator's clinical impressions of the therapeutic process.

Peter Oehen, MD attended medical school at University of Basel, Switzerland. He received his Specialist degree in Psychiatry and Psychotherapy in 1988, and has psychotherapeutic training in Guided Affective Imagery Therapy, Systemic Couple and Family Therapy, and Psycholytic Therapy. In private practice since 1988, Dr. Oehen has had a special interest in altered states of consciousness and psychedelic substances for more than 25 years. He currently serves as a Board Member of the Swiss Medical Association for Psycholytic Therapy (SAePT).
